My experience at IBEX’s Climbing Wall was breath taking. It was very fun and exciting. All the climbing that was done was very challenging and fun. The bouldering wall area was fun and challenging as well.

The overnight was more than I expected when we walked in and looked at the climbing walls it seemed trippy. I never got use to the views. And not even two hours into climbing almost everyone’s hands hurt. Around 12 I already felt like dropping Down on the ground and sleeping. I think this climbing overnight was truly one of the better overnights.

We helped the people at vail mansion bring down the Christmas decorations for Christmas then after we had candy and treats after we carried everything down from the 3rd floor. We do this to help the volunteers with bringing the Christmas decorations up from the basement so they can set up all the great decorations for their Christmas tours.
The Blue and Gray Park Overnight was great. We got to do many activities and all the food was amazing too. The Patrol meals seemed to look good too. For dinner the patrols had pizza, taco salad, steak burritos and hamburgers. For breakfast the patrols had pancakes, eggs, bacon, ham, cheese and egg sandwiches, and sausage and cheese burritos. The troop had a flag retirement ceremony after our troop campfire, which had great songs and skits. I think everyone liked it. Both the campfire and flag retirement ceremony was very well attended by the parents of the scouts. I would like to thank everyone who came on this overnight and I encourage those who didn’t make it out on this overnight to come to the October overnight which is the 23, 24 and 25. You are missing out on a lot of fun.
What a great overnight the Troop had with the Cub Scouts at Blue and Gray Park on September 25, 26 and 27, 2015. The troop put on an overnight for 15 Cub Scouts and some 30 parents of the Pack. The events the troop had were a monkey bridge, marshmallow guns, obsolete course, paper air plane contest and rocket shooting. We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend to spend out in the woods with the Troop and Cub Pack. After the events the Troop prepared taco salad with all the fixings for dinner with the help of the Bear Den. Once dinner was all cleaned up everyone had a little time to relax until the evening campfire where we had songs and skits by the Trop. The Pack wolf Den even had a great skit to help with the entertainment for the evening. We closed the campfire with a flag retirement ceremony. After campfire the Pack was treated to homemade cobblers. After a little more relaxing everyone turned in for the evening. On Sunday morning the Cub Pack was woken by bugle calls, a flag ceremony and breakfast which had a lot of French toast, sausage, mike and orange juice. After everything was cleaned up the Cub Pack broke camp and head home. The Troop is looking forward to another combined overnight in the spring of 2016.
The meaning of Mic-O-Say is friendship and warmth. But what does Mic-O-Say mean to me and how does it inspire me. First let me talk about how it inspired me as a Scout(Young Man) and later as an Leader. As a first year camper in 1969 watching Call Night I was very much captivated by the activities of Call Night and knew right then and there that I wanted to be apart of the program that is called Mic-O-Say. So I listened and watched the older boys in the Troop that were called and became Braves and Warriors that summer. It didn’t stop there as I watched them again next year at summer camp hearing their names called at Call Night and becoming Braves and Warriors. And I noticed that they were Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Scribe, Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, and so on. I figured out that they had a job of some form of leadership so I thought I need a job in the Troop so that I can show leadership. So I became an Assistant Patrol Leader and it was my third year at Summer Camp so this year I figured I would hear my name called for Foxman. So it is Visitor Sunday and Call Night, I am excited to hear my name called for Foxman that night as my Mother, sisters, brothers, and Grandparents are there to watch me get called to be a Foxman. So I sit there with anticipation as the names are called one by one to hear my name called for Foxman. As the last name is called and the Sachem says “That completes the call for Foxman”. My heart dropped, I thought where did I fail, what did I do wrong, and most of all I let my family down I thought. As I was thinking all of these thoughts, Tribal Council was calling Braves. I sat there still thinking what had I not done to hear my name called as my friends were hearing their names being called for Brave. Then out of the still of the night I hear, “Mike Norton Troop 282”. Did I hear right my name being called for Brave, I was shocked. I wasn’t a Foxman. I stood proudly and moved past the first row of seats to be escorted by a Runner. So I thought what did I do to be called to be a Brave in Mic-O-Say. So I started listing them in my head. I attended every meeting, overnight and scouting activity. I was an assistant patrol leader so I had a specific job so I can show leadership. But I found out later that you don’t need a job or title to show leadership, you just need to lead by example. I figured that out as I said earlier that I watched the older boys that were called and copied what they did. Which was always helping the younger Scouts, setting up tents, carrying their packs, teaching them how to cook, or helping them do dishes to name just a few. So basically “Helping other people”, which is a phrase in the Scout Oath. Therefore I figured that my name was called for Brave by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law. By hearing my name called that first time it has inspired me to live the Scout Oath and Scout Law in life and to hear it Tribal name called since, in Tribal fashion.
Now as a Leader I know that if it wasn’t for Mic-O-Say keeping me involved in Boy Scouts as an older boy I would not of attained the rank of Eagle Scout. I also would not of went on Summer Camp Staff or be back in Scouting if Mic-O-Say had not instilled in me to live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law. The Scout Oath and The Scout Law is very easy to say but very hard to live by. If you do your very best of living by the Scout Oath and Scout Law, then you too someday may be an Eagle Scout and a Tribesman of Mic-O-Say.

When we first got there we got off the bus. We asked the lady in the front what we could do. She said we could fill up the buckets with water in the big one and diet coke, coke, and sprite in the smaller ones. She also told us we could put up a tent for some of us. Hunter, me and mason went to the place she said to find it. After that we got the parts to put it up. Then we spread it out and put it together. Not too long after that me, hunter, mason, and brandon played Doctor Who monopoly. I got the most income because I had three hotels. I was starting to lose money but Mr. Wyatt said we had to rap it up so hunter took pictures of everyone’s money and cards and stuff because he wanted to play it at camp. That was some of my favorite things in our overnight.
Leaders who were not able to work on our new troop bus, missed out on the following:
Matt Copeland is a good under carriage man who can twist and fit in some very tight places. (Under the bus). Scott Howell, Jr can drive bits through metal like Mike Moustakis can drive the ball to the opposite field. T J England can pick off sticky adhesive quicker and more efficiently than anyone can flick a booger. And Phil Gramlich can still tell more stories than anyone I know, especially when involved in near misses with a trash dumpster while driving our new bus.

Yes, Boy Scout Troop 282’s next High Adventure Trip will be to the Grand Canyon.
A Grand Canyon Rim to Rim hike allows a scout and a scout leader to experience breathtaking views and the vast expanse of the canyon. There are few experiences more spectacular than seeing both the North and the South Rims at the same time from the bottom of the canyon. This Grand Canyon hiking trip has you backpacking from over 8,000 ft. in elevation from the North Rim to the almost 7,000 ft. South Rim. Along the North Kaibab trail, you will pass a couple of waterfalls (Roaring Springs and Ribbon Falls), hike along Bright Angel Creek, visit Phantom Ranch, dip your toes in the Colorado River and see evidence of ancient civilizations that once called Grand Canyon their home.
Anyone can participate in this trip, even if you are a first time backpacker with an above average level of fitness. If you don’t currently feel you are in shape for such a hike, the High Adventure Trek group will be training to get everyone into shape for this once in a lifetime trip. The group will be hiking the main trails of the canyon where there are amenities such as toilets, running water and even a canteen at Phantom Ranch where you can buy lemonade or a Snickers bar! The trails we will be hiking are well maintained and over 6 feet wide in most places.
Day 1
Let the adventure begin! Today you will be off to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We will begin with a 6 hour drive from the pick-up location in North Scottsdale Arizona. From the trailhead, we will hike 7 miles and 4,200 feet down to Cottonwood Campground. We can then jump into Bright Angel Creek to cool down or wander along the shore for a relaxing evening. The average time to reach Cottonwood camp is approximately 5 hours.
Day 2
After breakfast, we will follow Bright Angel Creek another 7 miles and 1,500 feet down to Bright Angel Camp. On the way, we will drop the packs for a side hike to Ribbon Falls – a 100 foot water fall that spews out of a side canyon. Bright Angel camp is nestled between the Colorado River and Bright Angel Creek. It will take us approximately 4.5 to 5 hours to reach Bright Angel Camp, including the time to hike to Ribbon Falls.
Day 3
After our gear is packed, we will start the hike out of the canyon along Bright Angel Trail. After 5 short miles, we will set up camp at Indian Garden. The hike will take us 1,400 ft. up in elevation. Since the hike only takes about 3.5 hours, we will have time to take a side hike to Plateau Point for stunning sunset views of the inner canyon and the Colorado River or one of many other side hikes available.
Day 4
We have reached our final leg of the trip. Up, up and away! Although this hike is only 4.5 miles, there is a 3,000 ft. increase in elevation. This leg of the hike will take us approximately 4.5 hours to complete and take us to our final destination, the South Rim. The group should have a couple of hours to grab a bite to eat, souvenir shop and hang out with all the bus tourists before heading back to Scottsdale.
